best leadership skillsThere are so many campaigns advertising ways to quickly grow your business and customer network. Some of them involve “purchasing” followers to make your brand look more popular than it actually is. This is just one of many ways to “grow” an ingenuine business.

However, there are fruitful, trustworthy ways to grow your customer network and increase sales. Here are several tried and true methods recommended by successful business owners.

Grow Your Customer Network: Identify Your Target Audience

Many businesses are all over the place when it comes to properly identifying their target audience and ideal customer. It is extremely difficult to market yourself, if you do not  clearly understand what you want to market. Studies have even shown that if it is not clear what you are marketing within the first few seconds of a potential customer visiting your website or store, they are much more likely to leave without purchasing anything.

Clarify what you provide and whom you offer your services to, and you will be on your way to naturally attracting your ideal client.

Grow Your Customer Network: Keep Current Clients Updated

Now that you have a client base, you need to keep them up to date. No radio silence. People want updated information. Whether it is strictly business related or with some personal life thrown in is completely up to you. Either way, by sending out emails, posting on social media, or talking with your customers, you keep them in the loop.

Another perk for doing this is that you build your clients’ trust in you and your company. The more they know about you and your business, the more they believe you are genuine, trustworthy, and reliable. It is this type of customer that sticks around and ideal clients you want to attract.

Grow Your Customer Network: Offer Rewards or Discounts

Motivation is key! Do you have a customer that leaves you rave reviews on your website or talks about your business to friends? Encourage this natural advertising by offering a rewards system, discounts, or a referral program.

For small businesses, it can be difficult to  offer discounts on products or services. Therefore, make sure to check out all your options. Maybe after a client has purchased a certain volume of products, they get a discount or gift with their next purchase.

For the excited customer who talks about your business with friends, offer them a free product, service, or dollar amount off when they have successfully referred a certain number of paying customers. Never give up money or time that you cannot afford to lose.

Grow Your Customer Network: Get Involved With The Community

Local community events help you market your business. Have you considered joining your city’s Chamber of Commerce? What about attending local business marketing events? These small activities bring community awareness to the services you offer and also help you connect on a genuine level with potential clients.

Many communities also have a “shop local or small business Saturday event” once or twice a year. Get involved! You never know what new customer will stop by or contact you due to your partnering with another local business.
