When the members of the group are so similar that blind spots go undetected, groupthink tends to develop.<\/p>\n<p>To avoid groupthink, it\u2019s important that your team makes room for open disagreement and the following attitudes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Respect for divergent thinking.<\/li>\n<li>Appreciation for the unique skills everyone brings to the team.<\/li>\n<li>Self-awareness.<\/li>\n<li>Personal responsibility and accountability.<\/li>\n<li>Cooperative rather than win\/lose problem-solving.<\/li>\n<li>The ability to forgive.<\/li>\n<li>Appreciation for diversity.<\/li>\n<li>Member empowerment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.TigersAmongUs.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Behaviors<\/a> that foster groupthink:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Procedures based on directional leadership and command-and-control practices.<\/li>\n<li>Intolerance for diversity.<\/li>\n<li>Leadership-focused problem-solving.<\/li>\n<li>Worthwhile ideas must conform to leader\u2019s agenda.<\/li>\n<li>No tolerance for\u00a0dissension.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Groupthink can devastate effective collaborations.
